FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS RELATING TO OUR COURSES
Each Programme has a maximum length of stay. As each Programme is a work based Apprenticeship, this will allow the candidate to progress throughout the Programme quicker as they gain competency in the range areas.
Each candidate will be visited by a consultant at least once in every 3-4 weeks. For a minimum of one hour, this may be longer depending on the content of the visit in accordance to the pathway.
Yes every candidate will undertake an initial assessment during the sign up stage of the Programme, which will identify any areas where the candidate will need support. A UKTD ALN/ASN support worker will then give them extra support. For private learners this extra support will be at a charge.
The key skills are basic communications skills, basic application of number skills and basic information technology skills (this one being optional for some apprenticeships) that the Learning and Skills Councils require all funded candidates to complete to set levels which will differ from programme to programme. They are made up of portfolio work and a multiple-choice test paper or proxies if applicable.
Yes, all funded learners will have to complete these. Any candidate that has GCSE results that are less than 5 years old (as of August 2004) could possibly be exempt from the multiple choice test paper but this will depend upon results achieved at GCSE level.
The tests will only be given to the candidate to sit when the UKTD Key Skills Worker and the learner feel they are ready.
If the Programme the candidate is participating in requires them to have practical assessments, these will be carried out during their working day, unless prior arrangements have been made with the UKTD consultant. Practical will be in accordance with the pathway.
Yes, the employer will be required to be available on each visit for a short period of time, to discuss the candidates progress and any help that the candidates may need from them in between UKTD visits, i.e. if the candidate is doing a programme in hairdressing then they may be required to give some practical training on a curtain technique. The employer will also need to be available to carry out reviews with the UKTD review consultant, the candidate and themselves every twelve weeks to evaluate progress towards completion. This will be at 6 weeks for an ALN/ASN learner
